Hi All,

What is the best and current bioinformatics approach to assign functions to putative/hypothetical proteins?

Thanks

  1. You can always choose BLAST to assign function to your unknown sequence. (also can try programs reciprocal blast for better conviction, inparanoid, RSD if query is proteins)
  2. Sometimes, based on domains also, the functions can be assigned. (can try interproscan)

A tool called BLAST2GO has some easy to use features.
