I am currently commissioning a protocol document to describe preparation of the plastoquinone SkQ1. It's one of a small class of ingested mitochondrially targeted antioxidant compound shown to extend life in mice. The resulting document will be released under an open license when done. My writer is stuck on "preparation of trialkylboranes required for the synthesis of alkylhydroquinone." Step 1 of synthesizing alkylhydroquinone is "prepare trialkylboranes by the hydroboration of alkenes." These are sources that should contain that information:
- H. C. Brown, Hydroboration, 1st Ed., W. A. Benjamin, Inc., New York, N. Y., 1962.
- G . Zweifel and H. C. Brown, Org. Reactions, 13, 1 (1963).
What I'm after, in order of preference:
1) a better and more recent source for how to "prepare trialkylboranes by the hydroboration of alkenes"
2) a way to get at the contents of these books in a non-costing-much-money-and-time way
3) a good commercial source for trialkylboranes or alkylhydroquinone
Option #3 is cheating by the terms of what I'd to produce, but would be good to know.
