Molecular & Genomic Pathology Lab at UPMC is recruiting a bioinformatics scientist to support the next-generation sequencing clinical testing. The following are requirements for the bioinformatics scientist position:

  • Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science or Biology with significant computational experiences; M.S. with the right combination of background and experiences will also be considered.
  • Basic knowledge about molecular biology and genomics
  • Proficient in Python and Linux/Unix/Mac environment;
  • Experience in analyzing next generation sequencing data (DNA-seq, RNA-seq etc.) is strongly preferred
  • Familiar with commonly used databases and bioinformatics tools for NGS data analysis (eg. bedtools, samtools, IGV, annovar, bowtie, GATK, ChimeraScan, UCSC Genome Browser, etc.)
  • (Optional) Experience with Django framework is strongly preferred
  • (Optional) Experience with R, Java, HTML/CSS and SQL is preferred
