We would like to set up a small lab to do RNA-seq as we are continuously outsourcing sequencing on big number of samples, and this might not be economical in the long run. We also see some advantages (and difficulties!) derived from doing sequencing in-house. So far, we just have a quite strong bioinformatics core.

We will start small, with a MiSeq or equivalent, and then scale up if we are successful. (I am fully aware that the capacity of a MiSeq only allows for running a total RNA-seq experiment at a time.)

What are the purchasing and running costs associated to an NGS lab in your experience?
