Hi

I thought to share this tool, in case you need it. The tool automatically downloads ALL NCBI blast databases from NCBI ftp server. The program does not require Perl, Blast or other additional 3rd party programs/tools. It is a stand alone program (about 2-3MB).

Functions

This program will be part of a larger package that allows the biologist to automatically install Blast, download databases (and keep them up to date), build its own databases, do advanced data mining, etc. All these functions will be available via GUI.

Target

This tool addresses mostly to biologists and less to bioinformaticians (they already know how to do all this cool stuff from a Linux console; right guys?)

An update was released today 30 March 2015.

Advantages: Windows and Mac support. True graphic interface (so it can be used also by biologists, not only by bio-informaticians) :)

So, basically a GUI slapped on top of update_blastdb.pl?

The program does not require Perl, Blast, Java or other additional 3rd party programs/tools. It is a stand alone program (about 2.5 MB) built from scratches. So, "basically" the answer to your question is a clear 'no'.
