Molecular Diagnostics Translational Research Laboratory - The Centre for Molecular Pathology-
Bioinformatician Band 7 - 3 year contract
We are seeking a highly enthusiastic and experienced bioinformatician with an interest in molecular oncology, to assist with the provision of personalised cancer.
The post holder will design, develop and validate bioinformatics pipelines and tools in order to provide an efficient and high quality molecular diagnostic service for cancer patients. This is mainly focused on next generation sequencing analysis but may also include gene expression profiling and other data-intensive applications. The post-holder will perform data analysis in large cohorts of samples and will provide statistical analysis as appropriate. In addition to clinical diagnostics there is an expectation for additional analyses of data for research projects.
The successful candidate will have a degree in a scientific or computational and/or significant experience in Bioinformatics or Computational Biology. You should have good programming/scripting skills (e.g. R, Perl, Python) and a working knowledge of a range of bioinformatics software tools and database resources.
Key outputs within the 3-year contract:
Design, validation and establishment (including QC and QA documentation) of analytical pipelines for different next generation sequencing protocols for clinical use, including: Somatic mutation analysis (SNV and small and large indels), amplifications, deletions, Translocations/fusions and gene rearrangements.
