Hi everyone!

I use blast+ to make annotation of RNA-seq data against nr. When I run blast, it always stopped by error. My command line is

blastn -task blastn -query Unigene.fa -db human.rna.fna -out NGB_blast.txt

and the error is

Critical: (110.6) CNcbiRegistry: Syntax error in system-wide configuration file:
 NCBI C++ Exception:
    "..........\src\corelib\ncbireg.cpp", line 660: Error: ncbi::IRWRegistry
::x_Read() - Badly placed '\' in the registry value: 'ROOT=J:\nASNLOAD=J:\BioEdi
t\tables\nDATA=J:\BioEdit\tables\' (m_Pos = 4)

Error: NCBI C++ Exception:
    "..........\src\corelib\ncbireg.cpp", line 660: Error: ncbi::IRWRegistry
::x_Read() - Badly placed '\' in the registry value: 'ROOT=J:\nASNLOAD=J:\BioEdi
t\tables\nDATA=J:\BioEdit\tables\' (m_Pos = 4)

I thought something is wrong with my bioedit, so I uninstalled it. However, the error continue to shows up. What should I do?

'ROOT=J:\nASNLOAD=J:\BioEdi t\tables\nDATA=J:\BioEdit\tables\'

Is there a space in "BioEdit" or is that from the copy/paste-process?

no, I didn't copy/paste but type by myself.

I had the same problem, and can not find the ncbi.ini file under the bioedit/tables.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Yea I have the same thing popping up. I uninstalled bioedit - no change, reinstalled everything -no change.

Using Windows 7 - it was working fine until something went corrupted. I can't even find the files that its saying is corrupted.

Please help =(

There is a similar problem here where one solution was to:

  • find and delete the "ncbi.ini" file from your Windows file system (because corrupted by BioEdit).

I would rather copy it somewhere safe and restore it to its place if this does not do the trick.

Agreed, and the file will be $HOME/.ncbirc, for linux~

Hi

I had the same problem but trying to use MultiGeneBlast. I found the ncbi.ini in the following location on a laptop running Windows 7Pro: C:\Users\default.SID18883\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Windows. Removing this file fixed the error.

Similar thing happens with Geneious 7 on Windows 7 64bit. I had had BioEdit on the computer, then changed some file associations, and then the Geneious custom-blast gave an error similar to the above. Simply deleting two copies of NCBI.ini in Windows system directories (61 bytes, appearing to be unchanged for 3 years) let the Geneious blast work.
