I use Fisher's exact test a lot. Here is an example in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fisher's_exact_test
Men Women
Dieting 1 9
Non-dieting 11 3
Using Fisher's exact test I can know whether the proportion of dieting in women is significantly higher than in men.
The problem is that there might exist other factors affecting dieting besides gender, such as age, current weight, etc. For example, I also have age data for each individual, and I want to control the factor "age". That is, I want to know whether the proportion of dieting in women is significantly higher than in men while excluding the influence of age. Which statistics method should I use?
