I've never heard of such a thing in any biomedical field.

I've never heard of any journal paying for content -- this is quite the opposite as it costs a fair bit of money to publish an article in a journal -- anywhere from $500 to $4000 US Dollars.

Meme: In Soviet Russia journal pays you!

(come to think of it - not so far fetched, perhaps that's how it should work - it is only in western sciences where authors need to pay either to be able to read what they publish or to publish)
