I am carrying out an ANCOVA looking at auditory processing in several patient groups. The dep var has been standardised (thus age has been accounted for here). As the groups differ in age, should I then use age as a covariate?
If the dependent variable is standardized such that age no longer has an effect then there's no reason to again try to account for age. Having said that, it might be nice to do so once just to ensure that the standardization works correctly...if it does then just omit age from your model.
BTW, this sort of question is better addressed on the "Cross validated" forum.
