We're looking for someone to join our Genebuild team in Ensembl at the EBI in Cambridge. The job involves running our genebuild automatic pipelines to annotate genes onto genomes from biological data, and for some species to merge them with manual annotation and produce the Gencode genes.
We're looking for people with a good biology background, plus Perl coding and use of Unix. The EBI can get visas for pretty much anyone, so doesn't matter where you're from.
On a personal note, I love the EBI and I love Ensembl. We're working on the cutting edge and providing free open data to the biological, clinical and bioinformatic community, which is just awesome. We're also really nice people to work with!
Visit the job ad to find out more and apply here. I'm willing to answer any questions you might have (although I might have to ask other people).
Hello,
How important is biology background? I am working in a medical research center as software engineer, so have basic understanding of biology and ngs sequencing?
It's advantageous, but not absolutely necessary.
