What the rs IDs on OMIM are different from the rs IDs in genecards for the same gene?

Hello guys,

I am making a database of all the SNP rs IDs for FTO gene and just came across a very strange result with a search on the internet: When I search the FTO gene on OMIM http://www.omim.org/entry/610966, the rs IDs found are completely different from the rs IDs I found on gene cards website http://www.genecards.org/cgi-bin/carddisp.pl?gene=FTO

Why is that?

Should I include all of the rs ID from OMIM as well as gene cards?

If these two databases have two different sets of information about the same gene, then how do I know whether there are other databases which include another new sets of rs ID?

Thank you very much!

OMIM is only showing variants that are clinically associated from ClinVar, and is showing your three selected out of ten – click on All ClinVar variants to see everything.

GeneCards has all variants, clinically associated or not. It is showing you a sample (probably random) of four out of 14,669.

Thank you Emily.

How do you know that there are ten variants in OMIM in total?

Beside that, is OMIM the most comprehensive database for clinically associated variants or are there better databases too?

Thank you!

I clicked on "All ClinVar variants".
