Closed:Convolution in motif detection

Imagine we want to find a common DNA sequence or motif. There is a process involved, which is called, convolution. It's to use integral of two function and create a third function. How is this used in Common Motif Finding. I'm trying to read a paper. I can't find any where explaining this.
