Responsibilities

  1. Performs complex laboratory tests which may require some independent decision making.
  2. Develops and evaluates investigative routines that lead to results of specific experiments.
  3. Performs technical research on assigned experiments through the use of self-generated and cooperatively developed investigative methodologies that are based on knowledge of the field, review of literature and analysis of available data.
  4. Collects, accurately records and analyzes data in conjunction with other research staff.
  5. Analyzes verbal and/or statistical data to prepare reports and studies for use by the laboratory staff.
  6. Prepares statistical tabulations, using a calculator or computer.
  7. Demonstrates enhanced proficiency in data analysis, preparation of glassware, extraction and plating procedures, programming and mathematical ordering systems. May utilize computer.
  8. Oversees supply functions, inventory control, equipment use and maintenance, and animal care and ordering, as needed.
  9. Maintains compliance with all institutional / safety training requirements.
  10. Maintains laboratory records, supplies, samples in an organized manner (such as a laboratory notebook and sample storage record).
  11. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Good interpersonal, communication and organizational skills. Good command of the English language, both written and verbal.

Education

Bachelor degree in biology, chemistry or other basic science required.

Certification and licensure

None

Work Experience

A minimum of three (3) years of progressively technical experience in general laboratory methodologies required. A Master's degree in a specified basic science field may suffice for two (2) years experience. A demonstrated thorough knowledge of: all routines common to respiratory, immunology and related research; techniques used in all bench type investigation routines, basic programming, basic progress reporting and basic data collation methods; and general knowledge of advanced methodologies dealing with specific fields of investigation.
