Hi biostars!

I am working on genomes and get a name list of bacteria, like this:

'Clostridium_sp._D5', 'Clostridium_sp._HGF2', 'Clostridium_sp._L2-50', 'Clostridium_sp._M62_1', 'Clostridium_sp._SS2_1', 'Collinsella_aerofaciens_ATCC_25986', 'Coprobacillus_sp._29_1', 'Coprobacillus_sp._8_2_54BFAA', 'Coprococcus_comes_ATCC_27758', 'Coprococcus_eutactus_ATCC_27759', 'Desulfovibrio_piger_ATCC_29098', 'Dialister_succinatiphilus_YIT_11850', 'Dorea_formicigenerans_4_6_53AFAA', 'Dorea_formicigenerans_ATCC_27755', 'Dorea_longicatena_DSM_13814', 'Eggerthella_sp._1_3_56FAA', 'Enterococcus_faecium_1,230,933', 'Enterococcus_faecium_Aus0085', 'Erysipelotrichaceae_bacterium_2_2_44A', 'Erysipelotrichaceae_bacterium_3_1_53', 'Erysipelotrichaceae_bacterium_5_2_54FAA', 'Erysipelotrichaceae_bacterium_6_1_45', 'Escherichia_coli_0.1288', 'Escherichia_coli_042', 'Escherichia_coli_07798', 'Escherichia_coli_2362-75', 'Escherichia_coli_AA86', 'Escherichia_coli_JJ1886',

But I do not know the meaning of the names. According to biological classification, 'Erysipelotrichaceae_bacterium_2_2_44A' represents a species, however 'Erysipelotrichaceae' is a class. So what about its order, family and genus? What is the meaning of the string '2_2_44A'?

Thanks!

ATCC and DSM designations are numbers from respective culture collections. Alphanumeric characters that follow a Genus and/or Genus/species name are strain designations.

Thank you!

But what is the difference between strain and species?
