The Biomedical Informatics Shared Resource (BISR) is a well established team at the Department of Biomedical Informatics, The Ohio State University Collage of Medicine. BISR provides analysis support to the Ohio State University investigators. BISR team specialized in analysis of high-throughput, high dimensional biological data, and other biomedical data and information using state-of-the-art informatics tools. We are looking for an enthusiastic and talented bioinformatician to join our BISR team.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement and support complex scientific software tools and deployment for basic and clinical research studies as a member of the Department of Biomedical Informatics
  • Perform data analysis for high-dimensional / high throughput next generation sequencing data from wide range of experiments, including but not limited to RNA-seq, targeted sequencing, whole genome sequencing, small-RNA sequencing from various platforms
  • Design and develop integrated data analysis pipelines, contributes to on-going pipeline infrastructure development efforts
  • Identify and resolve hardware and software issues
  • Work closely with sequencing facilities to provide quality control measures
  • Utilize software tools to accommodate the user requests with a minimum turn-around time
  • Interact with biomedical researchers, providing technical expertise and developing solutions
  • Contribute to grant applications, presentations, papers and posters.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biomedical informatics, computer and information science, electrical and electronics engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Master’s degree desired
  • Experience in Python, Perl, R, Linux/Unix, Scripting, NextGen sequence data analysis tools, GATK workflow, alignment, expression quantification, variant detection, copy number analysis, meta-analysis and pathway analysis tools, systems design and tools integration desired
  • Experience in an academic research environment desired
  • Successful completion of a background check
