  • Establish your profile in farming systems agronomy worldwide
  • Develop research links between agronomy, germplasm and plant breeding
  • Investigate new technologies in plant phenomics

The position:

As a Farming Systems Research Agronomist with CSIRO Agriculture & Food, you will join our Canberra-based Farming Systems group and undertake on-farm agronomic experimentation in southern Australia. The key focus of this role is to investigate the impacts of a range of innovative crop management strategies to improve productivity and input-use efficiency. You will develop and apply digital agriculture principles and applications within the portfolio of relevant activities at both experimental and farm-scales. In particular, you will have the opportunity to develop and integrate new technologies into research and extension activities as a means to modernise cropping systems research and delivery, to assist developments in commercial agriculture. More widely, opportunity exists to develop research links between agronomy, germplasm and plant breeding, along with new technologies in plant phenomics.

You will link industry needs with emerging technologies in soil and crop sensing, and farming systems simulation, along with developments in precision agriculture, zone management and digital platforms that are now being widely promoted for industry application. Your appointment will complement and extend existing CSIRO skills in soil-plant-animal systems research and drive new collaborative opportunities both within CSIRO and with national and international stakeholders.
