I noticed that the genome of M.fijinensis, the number of predicted proteins is 13,107 but the number of proteins with KOG keeps increasing each year. Is it because KOG database is constantly getting updated?

In this publication from 2012

http://journals.plos.org/plospathogens/article?id=10.1371/journal.ppat.1003037#s4

the number of M.fijiensis proteins with KOG is 6595

In this publication from August 2016

http://journals.plos.org/plosgenetics/article?id=10.1371/journal.pgen.1005876#abstract0

the number of M.fijiensis proteins with KOG is 6676

In this publication from September 2016

http://journals.plos.org/plosgenetics/article?id=10.1371/journal.pgen.1005904#sec013

the number of M.fijiensis proteins with KOG is 7323

And, in the JGI website http://genome.jgi.doe.gov/cgi-bin/kogBrowser?db=Mycfi2 the number of M.fijiensis proteins with KOG is 7686

Could someone please explain?
