The Biomedical Informatics Shared Resource (BISR) is a well established team at the Department of Biomedical Informatics (BMI), The Ohio State University Collage of Medicine. BISR provides analysis support to the Ohio State University investigators. BISR team specialized in analysis of high-throughput, high dimensional biological data, and other biomedical data and information using state-of-the-art informatics tools. We are looking for an enthusiastic and talented senior bioinformatician to join our BISR team. Research Scientist will function as an expert and resource in biomedical informatics research in BISR.

Responsibilities:

  • Conceptualize, design, implement, evaluate, and direct research with regard to biomedical informatics
  • Develop, adopt and implement new laboratory methods
  • Develop hypothesis and experimental approach to hypothesis testing
  • Participate as a team member with researchers to interpret data and discuss project progress
  • Collaborate with other researchers in determining research priorities and planning programs of research
  • Keep up to date with relevant published literature, perform research for new methods and make recommendations regarding research procedures
  • Advise staff and researchers on new technology and trends in biomedical informatics
  • Manage and oversee the selection and design of research methodologies used for data analysis and establish procedures
  • Develop and write research manuscripts, articles, and abstracts
  • Presents ongoing work and findings at academic and international conferences
  • Develop and conduct educational workshops, lectures and seminars
  • Develop, write and submit grant proposals of original research as principal investigator to extramural funding agencies to obtain significant salary and research support from outside funding agencies and to promote inclusion of biomedical informatics in proposals troubleshoots problems
  • Supervise graduate students and other members of staff and technicians within BMI and BISR

Requirements:

  • PhD degree in biomedical informatics, computational biology, computer and information science, electrical and electronics engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Postdoc experience desired.
  • Experience in Python, Perl, R, Linux/Unix, scripting, NextGen sequence data analysis tools, GATK workflow, alignment, expression quantification, variant detection, copy number analysis, meta-analysis and pathway analysis tools, systems design and tools integration
  • Experience in an academic research environment
  • Relevant publications
  • Successful completion of a background check

Salary: $82-90K
