A grant for a postdoctoral researcher in the Computational Biomedicine research group and the Bioinformatics Unit at Turku Centre for Biotechnology is open for applications. We are looking for a creative and motivated researcher with experience in analyzing omics data.

Turku Centre for Biotechnology (http://www.btk.fi) is a joint department of University of Turku (http://www.utu.fi/en/) and Åbo Akademi University, providing high-end technologies and expertise to academic and industrial researchers and a stimulating multidisciplinary and international research environment. The Bioinformatics Unit and the Computational Biomedicine Group of Dr. Laura Elo (http://www.btk.fi/research/research-groups/elo/) develop computational data analysis tools and mathematical modelling methods for biomedical research, with the eventual goal of improving the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of complex diseases, such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and cancer. A specific focus is on analyzing and interpreting data generated by modern high-throughput biotechnologies, such as deep sequencing and mass-spectrometry proteomics.

The postdoctoral researcher is part of a multidisciplinary team with backgrounds in mathematics, statistics, computer science, bioinformatics, biology or medicine, ensuring that there are the skills and additional personnel to assist in the analyses as needed. The postdoctoral researcher has the opportunity to target the research projects according to his/her own interests within the projects running at the Bioinformatics Unit. All necessary IT infrastructures, data storage, and software tools are already running and available at the Unit.

The grant is initially for one year, with a possibility for extension, depending on the progress of the project. Starting date is negotiable. The amount of monthly grant awarded to the postdoc is based on candidate's previous experience and personal performance.

Qualifications

We are looking for a highly motivated scientist with expertise and proven track record in data analysis. We will consider candidates with potential and established excellence in research. Particular attention is paid to publications within the past three years and success in research funding applications. The candidate should hold a PhD degree. Good communication skills in English, both oral and written, are essential. Independency and self-driven attitude are highly appreciated, but the candidate should be able to do research as part of a team as well.

Application

The application should include a motivation letter, CV, list of publications, contact information for 2-3 referees, and copies of relevant degree certificates. Applications should be sent to bioinformatics-coordinator@utu.fi. The position is filled as soon as the right candidate has been found.

For further information please contact Mirkka Ruotsalainen, bioinformatics-coordinator@utu.fi or +358 (0) 29 450 3796.
