Dear all,

I am willing to attend a really structured and useful course in these disciplines, live or online. Can you advice a really good one?

Too many 'or's here, I think you should start with a Unix course, then you can continue with other courses. What's available 'live' depends on where you are, but this question is not really specific to bioinformatics. If you are a beginner, I recommend general purpose introductory courses or books, or ebooks. It's not clear to me at what level you are. If you already know how to program I would try to jump right into an existing project to gain experience.

Recommend Your Favorite Bioinformatics Books should give you some advice on general purpose books.

A little late posting this, but if anyone is still interested, I recently took a course that used "Bioinformatics Data Skills" by Vince Buffalo as its course text. It covers basic, but very useful Unix, R, and Python concepts related to some typical bioinformatics problems, and has a nice github associated with it that contains example data.
