  • Career development opportunity in soil-plant systems modelling
  • Structured postdoctoral training program
  • Launch your research career at CSIRO - Australian Science, Australia's Future!

The position:

CSIRO Postdoctoral Fellowships help facilitate the recruitment and development of our potential leaders. They provide valuable opportunities for scientists and engineers to launch their careers, extend professional networks and enhance career prospects.

Future Science Platforms (FSPs) are a major new CSIRO initiative. FSPs are multi-year investments in frontier science that will reinvent and create new industries for Australia. Digiscape is the FSP that is creating next-generation decision tools to transform the agriculture and land management sector.

As a Digiscape Postdoctoral Fellow with CSIRO Agriculture and Food, you will join a cohort of early-career researchers and engineers who will combine their individual disciplinary contributions into mission-focused R&D. Under the mentorship of a multidisciplinary team of scientists and technical experts, you will develop methods and enabling technologies to predict functional soil properties, with particular emphasis on predicting the water-holding capacity of the rooting zone.

You will focus on how soil profile characteristics combine with climate and management variations to determine crop growth dynamics and final yield of multiple crop species, and develop methods to extract the soil information implicit in crop and vegetation dynamics data. This postdoctoral fellow position will give you the opportunity to:

  • Achieve more accurate predictions of functional soil properties.
  • Use newly developed techniques to compute model uncertainty.
  • Contribute to updating the Soil and Landscape Grid of Australia
  • Publish in high impact scientific journals.
  • Present your findings at national and international conferences.

Driven by industry need, this exciting research activity requires a team-oriented individual who will enjoy interacting with scientists and technical staff within CSIRO, as well as with our research partners and other key stakeholders.
