I'm thinking of reusing data from gene expression, and in all papers that I read, they use R,

More specifically, bioconductor limma package. So I went looking for it, and got lost with the large amount of material available and not knowing where to start.

Then, What is the best way to start learning R?

Best Regards,

Hi,

I would recommend to use the platform MOOC for free courses : here

also a good 'R meta book' : here

I personally used these 2 ways to get the very basics and then made scripts by myself testing commands from different online manuals such as this one

I found the swirl package which helps you to learn R while in the R terminal quite convenient.

your question is very general... of you want to start learning basics in R try free tutorial as data camp or code school for example. However, if you want to use a specific package you can find the tutorial for this one in google.

Good luck!

That's exactly it. I want to learn the basics first, then learn bioconductor limma packag, I will see the courses as data camp and code school.

I would say pick one of the suggestions above and just try to get familiar with R. After you get a good basic grasp of the language, just go for it rather than looking at some tiny details (i.e. learning by doing instead of learning the package). You would get a lot of experiences (and possibly some errors) by experimenting with different parameters, etc. This will be really helpful and can accelerate your learning progress.
