Hello Kanchana,

Installing BLAST program locally is very essential and quite handy.

it's very simple

1.Go to the BLAST download page (ftp://ftp.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/blast/executables/blast+/LATEST/)

2.Click the download link under "archive" for your operating system.

3.The Windows archives are self-extracting executables. Additional archive formats are available from the BLAST executables ftp site 9ftp://ftp.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/blast/executables/blast+/LATEST/)

4.To install the software, follow the instructions in the BLAST+ user manual (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/bookshelf/br.fcgi?book=helpblast) , or for help, write to blast-help@ncbi.nlm.nih.gov.

5.Use the BLAST+ makeblastdb program (or formatdb in the legacy BLAST package) to convert a FASTA-formatted local file into a BLAST database.

6.Pre-formatted BLAST databases are available from the BLAST database ftp site. Consult the README file in that directory for more information.

cheers

Optimist

Installation is very simple. Download 32/64bit BLAST+ from ncbi and extract the directory from zip file and place it in the home folder of your Linux system. That's all it is installed in your system. The path of your blast+ will be /home/xxxx/NCBIBLAST+

Most of the system requirements depend on the size of the database and the query and the blast program. From what I have seen blastx takes lot of time if the db and query sizes are big. Hope this gives you some idea.
