ASSISTANT PROFESSOR FACULTY POSITION: Biostatistics/Bioinformatics Faculty Position MARSHALL UNIVERSITY JOAN C. EDWARDS SCHOOL OF MEDICINE

The Department of Biomedical Sciences in the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine is seeking candidates for a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor in bioinformatics. Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent degree. Postdoctoral experience is desirable. The primary responsibilities are to participate in research activities in the School of Medicine, in part by providing bioinformatic analyses for biomedical researchers, and to teach bioinformatics and statistical methods to medical students and residents, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows. Research responsibilities will include analysis of next generation sequencing data and managing high throughput data pipelines. An ability to write data analysis scripts in programming languages such as R, Python, and/or Java, and familiarity with commonly-used open-source bioinformatics software is required. Although all well-qualified candidates will be considered, preference will be given to individuals with research interests in the genomic, genetic, epigenetic and environmental causes of complex diseases and with prior experience in statistical and bioinformatic analysis of high-throughput sequencing data.

The successful candidate will have a broad understanding of biomedical research goals, consult with biomedical investigators on experimental design and data analysis, collaborate in the preparation of grant applications and participate in the group meetings of the Bioinformatics and Genomics Core Facilities. Competitive state-funded salary commensurate with experience will be provided.

Applicants should submit curriculum vitae, representative reprints, a summary of past experience, a short statement regarding research interests and future plans, and a list of three references with their postal and email addresses. All application materials should be submitted to the Marshall University PeopleAdmin site. Review of applications will begin on or about October 1, 2017. Position will remain open until filled.

Marshall University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer and has an affirmative duty to reasonably accommodate otherwise qualified individuals with a disability.
