I'm currently looking into pathways in KEGG PATHWAY database to determine which ones are gene/protein and which ones are metabolites in a pathway.

I'm trying to only look at canonical ones, but I'm having a difficult time differentiating between canonical and non-canonical pathways (Unless they are all canonical, in which case I apologize for this question). With a close to no background in biology, I would appreciate it if someone enlightens me on this issue.

Thank you.
