Is the NCBI is closing down due to lack of funding?

We know when the governments wants to cut their spending, research is always a good point to start.

And I have one more question: how much disk space do I need to make a copy of all the information contained in the ncbi (mirror)? Everything.

Thanks.

Hello euduca!

A valid answer has been posted.
This situation is unique to USA that has no parallel in other countries/economies of the world. It should get eventually sorted out.

No problems. Fourteen years ago once my boss asked me how much space it would take if we wanted to copy everything. According to him, if the US entered into some kind of conflict the access would be lost. So when I saw this warning on NCBI's website, the question he asked me over ten years ago came with a flash of lightning in my memory. haha ... Thanks.

There is a general shutdown of all US government services due to non agreement on spending bill within the deadline. Check the news

This means that many services will have reduced staff. There is no need to worry though as far as data on NCBI is concerned, as it will stay up as long as it needs minimal staff for running. And this situation is a temporary one, as there are other more important departments affected due to this general shutdown. So the senate has to come for a solution sooner or later to break this logjam.

And I have one more question: how much disk space do I need to make a copy of all the information contained in the ncbi (mirror)? Everything.

Start talking to Google, probably they might rent some data-warehouse for this :)

NCBI ii HUGEEEEEEEE !!!
