I'm new to bioinformatics and to this site so pardon me if this isn't the place for this question (or if it doesn't make sense!) but I've tried to install EMBOSS in the terminal and it seems that using "brew install emboss" doesn't work anymore? Not sure exactly why but could have to do with the deprecation of Homebrew/science recently.

Is there source code to install emboss instead of using brew? And what are people doing in general about the deprecation of homebrew/science, is source code the way to go now?

Maybe install conda and use bioconda to install EMBOSS: cf. https://conda.io/docs/user-guide/install/index.html and https://anaconda.org/bioconda/emboss

Thanks for the help! I had tried installing it using miniconda before but not bioconda and it worked!

Have you tried brewsci/homebrew-bio?

I tried brew tap brewsci/bio brew install FORMULA

but it's saying: Error: No available formula with the name "formula" ==> Searching for a previously deleted formula (in the last month)... Warning: homebrew/core is shallow clone. To get complete history run: git -C "$(brew --repo homebrew/core)" fetch --unshallow

Error: No previously deleted formula found. ==> Searching for similarly named formulae... ==> Searching local taps... This similarly named formula was found: file-formula To install it, run: brew install file-formula ==> Searching taps... ==> Searching taps on GitHub... Error: No formulae found in tap
