How long does it take to AES encrypt/ decrypt a 150GB BAM file?
With the advent of policies like GDPR I'm worried that files in our European data management systems would have to encrypt genomes at the file level. Really worried that this will ruin our day-to-day usability for research. I've heard this policy treats genomic data as PHI. Probably too long. If this becomes a requirement (sounds like it already may be in EU) then people who deal with large datasets may have to start looking to storage devices that can encrypt/decrypt data as it is being read/written (e.g. Dell EMC VMAX series)..
