Hi everyone!

I have a SBML model file downloaded from a database, and when I open it in edit mode the file indicates that is level 3 SBML. Is there any way/tool to convert it to SBML level 2? (to use it with old software)

Thanks a lot in advance!

Hi,

Thanks for your interest in SBML! I know you already have an answer from a separate email to the SBML team, but I wanted to post some options here in case other people find this question.

In the general case, it may be worth trying the SBFC converters, for which there is an online conversion facility where you can upload an SBML file and convert it. If it fails, you may next want to try to see if the SBML Level 2 software has a newer version that can support Level 3 (perhaps by contacting the authors of the software directly). If that fails, there may be other software that supports the features you need – the SBML Software Guide has a long list of software and describes their different capabilities. Alternatively, it's often worth asking on the sbml-interoperability Google group (if the question is very specific to a given software tool) or the more general sbml-discuss (if the question is more about features of SBML). Finally, if all of that fails, do not hesitate to contact the SBML Team directly via email and we will try to answer as best as we can.

Best wishes on your continued work.
