We are starting to define the release process for the Human Cell Atlas.

The first couple of HCA releases will be primarily single-cell RNA-Seq and we are interested to know what you would expect our releases to contain

Please fill out our survey if you would like to help us define our releases

Is there an estimate for when the release may happen? I believe the original goal was November 2017, so it seems like the process is not as simple as previously anticipated.

The first production release of the DCP is happening in June.

The first data release of HCA is targetting Q4 2018.

And what is DCP? It stands for Data Coordination Platform, but what exactly does that entail? If there is no data released in June, is there a reason to look forward to it?

The data coordination platform is the cloud-based infrastructure which will provide access to the data collected by the HCA as well as an API for querying and eventually, others will build tools on top of it to do the tertiary analysis of the data and compare your data to the HCA data.

There will be early datasets in the HCA when it is released in June but this will not be our first official release, that will be the production release of the service so we can get people to kick the tires and start accepting data in larger quantity than we are able to do now.

I suspect the groups who will be most excited about the June release are those who want to build value-added services on top of the DCP but anyone who wants to be able to use the HCA data will be able to start accessing it through this service as soon as it is running.
