Hi,

I am trying to figure out how to use utilities (specifically Newick). I am very new to bioinformatics in general; trying to delve through instructions via internet haven't quite helped me figure out how to utilize these tools.

I have the newick-utils-1.6 package (and all its bells and whistles) located in my home directory, my .soft, and my cwd...in attempts to find a way to get them to work without getting the error - error while loading shared libraries: libnw.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I am using PuTTY to access HPC from a Windows computer.

I would be grateful for any help to point me in the right direction.

I'm not sure what your user level is on the HPC and since I have never really used one I'm not going to be the best one to answer this question... however the error is basically saying "I don't know where you put this library, its not in the normal place." so with that in mind this will be helpful to you https://lonesysadmin.net/2013/02/22/error-while-loading-shared-libraries-cannot-open-shared-object-file/

Thank you very much for responding! I am still learning how to use the HPC so most instructions I find online are beyond my level of understanding.

This should be a question for your System Administrator. Show her/him the error message, and then she/he will know what to do.

Are you trying to submit jobs to the HPC cluster with a .jobs file, or are you trying to get this running just on the headnode?
