Description:
A post-doctoral position is available for candidates with experience in the application of machine intelligence methods to large-scale healthcare datasets. The candidate will be co-mentored by Dr. Negin Hajizadeh (Center for Health Innovations and Outcomes Research (CHIOR)), Northwell Health and Department of Medicine Division of Pulmonary Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine and Northwell Health) and Dr. Shameer Khader (Centre for Research Informatics and Innovation, Northwell Health, New Hyde Park, NY). The incoming fellow would work on the design, development, and implementation of data and intelligence-driven connected ICU that could improve outcomes for acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). ARDS is a life-threatening form of respiratory failure that affects approximately 200,000 patients and resulting in nearly 75,000 deaths each year in the United States. The candidate should be able to analyze data resulting from data-intensive medicine and have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in computer science, bioinformatics, statistics or engineering. The candidate is expected to gain cross-disciplinary training in healthcare, clinical informatics, critical care informatics, computational medicine, bioinformatics and health data science.
Requirements:
We are encouraging applicants with Ph.D. in computer science, biomedical informatics, engineering, biostatistics, or related disciplines to apply for the position. MD or MD-PhD candidates with informatics experience and quantitative skills may also apply. Applicants may have experience in one or more areas including biomedical informatics, bioinformatics, computer vision, robotics, machine learning, deep learning, scalable computing and pervasive computing. Experience in scientific computing using Python (pandas, scipy, numpy etc.), database technologies (SQL, NoSQL, and time-series database) modern machine intelligence software packages (Tensor Flow, Theano, Open CV etc.), and statistical computing using R are desirable.
