Hi, I am starting now learning how to do my first gwas and I have twin data and I am confused about how to manipulate it. I can't seem to find any papers that have done gwas in twins and I am wondering how to understand the identity by decent part in the QC. Can someone clarify this? Thank you

Hi! I am standing infront of the same problem... right at the beginning of understanding how to work with twin data in a GWAS (and generally very new to GWAS). Do you have a bit more clue by now.. or could anybody else enlighten me a bit about how to perform a GWAS with twin data?

  1. What is the logic behind it - is it exactly the same as a case-control GWAS? How do you control for relatedness? Do you keep only singletons or pairs (of monocygotic)?
  2. What is the advantage of twin GWAS over case-control or other family-based GWAS?
  3. Which statistical methods are used?
  4. Any specific software?
  5. Is there any difference between the analysis of monocygotic vs dicygotic twins?

It seems very hard to find detailed and understandable literature on this topic.

Thank you! It would really help me!
