Postdoctoral Research Position in Neuroimaging and Genomics of Addiction

Dr. Vanessa Troiani is seeking an outstanding researcher for a position as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Geisinger, an integrated health system in Pennsylvania. The postdoc will carry out translational research on the neural and genetic underpinnings of substance abuse disorders, specifically opioid use disorder. This project is to work on a funded NIH R01 in collaboration with Dr. Wade Berrettini from University of Pennsylvania. The project aims to use electronic health record phenotype data, self-report phenotype data, brain imaging data, and genomic data to develop a risk profile for opioid use disorder. Experience in large-scale neuroimaging analyses, particularly structural neuroimaging analysis, is preferred. The postdoc will report to Dr. Troiani and may also collaborate with other researchers across disciplines at Geisinger (and with outside colleagues), and will ideally be based in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. The postdoc will assist in analysis of existing structural neuroimaging data on a large population (10,000+) of patients who also have a large amount of clinical and genomic data. Dr. Troiani is particularly interested in candidates with strong statistical and computational skills. Other duties include contribution to ongoing research projects, preparation of talks and participation in seminars, and drafting reports, grant applications, and papers for publication.

Required qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. (completed by start of employment) in neuroscience, psychology, computer science, genetics, or any other relevant scientific discipline
  • Training in structural neuroimaging research methods
  • Experience with statistical software
  • Experience with programming

Desired qualifications:

  • Scientific publications
  • Experience in interdisciplinary research and working in collaborative teams
  • Experience with computer programming and bioinformatics
  • Experience with genomic analysis and/or neuroimaging analysis

Duration: This is a one-year position with the expectation of renewal for additional years conditional on performance.

To apply:

Please send a brief cover letter, C.V., and two representative publications or manuscripts in a single email to vtroiani@geisinger.edu. Please include names, titles, and contact information for at least two references. Questions about the position may also be sent to the same address. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.

Company Description:

Geisinger Health System is a large, integrated health services organization that, through its 12 hospital campuses, serves more than 3 million residents throughout 45 counties in central, southcentral and northeastern Pennsylvania, and in southern New Jersey. As a learning health care system, Geisinger integrates research into all aspects of medicine and healthcare delivery. Research at Geisinger benefits from the system's 20 years of electronic health records, its clinical data warehouse, and its rapidly growing MyCode biobank (more than 200,000 patient-participants consented for whole exome genetic sequencing, with over 90,000 exomes sequenced to date). Geisinger's location in Lewisburg, PA, is located within a three-hour drive of New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC. Lewisburg is home to Bucknell University and is about one hour east of Pennsylvania State University.
