POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Analytical Performance Scientist is responsible for program management, experimental design, method development, mentorship of junior staff, and providing support to Danone NA plant labs. The candidate must ensure and provide metrics of accurate and precise results. The Analytical Performance Scientist is also responsible for maintaining the Laboratory Quality Management system according to ISO 17025. The Analytical Performance Scientist will support performance, audit, systems (laboratory technology), continuous improvement, and value capture projects.

SCOPE OF ROLE: The Analytical Performance Scientist and other team members will support all manufacturing facilities that produce Danone NA food products with emphasis on company-owned facilities. As needed, the team will also engage in activities with equipment manufacturers, vendors, industry colleagues, and regulatory agencies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Chemistry and or microbiology testing
  • Program and project management
  • Experimental design and method development
  • Maintain department intranet site
  • Connect with external partners for sequencing program development
  • Write and develop standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Write and or review of microbiology and or chemistry reports
  • Short-term and or long-term research projects which may include validation/verification studies
  • Data analysis and interpretation
  • Maintain laboratory instrumentation, controls, and inventory
  • Participate in required proficiency based testing and ensure compliance
  • Troubleshoot testing challenges and drive continuous improvement to come to a resolution / corrective and preventive actions
  • Enforce and improve the Chemical Hygiene Plan
  • Support the manufacturing facilities with routine, analytical testing
  • Maintain compliance to our Quality System through the performance of accurate and precise methods, including sensory on a variety of food product platforms: dairy/non- dairy/plant-based food and beverages
  • Provide purchasing support
  • Backup support for Core LIMS data management system

PREFERRED CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • B.S. in Analytical Chemistry/Chemistry/Food Science/Microbiology/Bioinformatics or related field with 5-10 years of experience
  • M.S. in Analytical Chemistry/Chemistry/Food Science/Microbiology/Bioformatics or related field with 3-5 years of experience
  • Prefer mid- to high- proficiency with Infrared (FOSS/Delta) analysis, calibrations, and maintenance (high proficiency/experience in this area may substitute years of experience noted above)
  • Prefer mid- to high- proficiency in HPLC and FID analysis, maintenance, and method development
  • Prefer mid- to high- proficiency with D-count, Bactiflow, Next Gen Sequencing (& bioinformatics), plating, and PCR methods
  • Prefer mid- to high- experience with LIMS-based systems, InfinityQS, plant PLC computers, and plant equipment
  • Prefer experience in Laboratory Quality Systems (i.e. ISO 17025:2005)
  • Ability to travel ~5-15%

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Self-motivated, highly organized, ability to multi-task, customer service & team oriented, excellent communication skills, effective at time management, and positive approach to business challenges
  • Understanding of Good laboratory practice standards (GLP)
  • Proficient in data analysis/excellent record keeping/documentation
  • Proficient in technical writing
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must have proficiency with personal computers, Microsoft Office tools, and laboratory instrumentation
