Hello,

I have several annotated genes with their functions (i.e.50S ribosomal protein L11-1, Pup-protein ligase, F-box plant-like, etc), GO terms/PFAM/interpro IDs. I would like to categorize my genes further into 20-30 broad categories based on their function. i.e:

Amino acid metabolism
Bioenergetics
Cellular communication/signal transduction
Cellular dynamics
DNA metabolism
Lipid, fatty-acid, and isoprenoid metabolism
Mobile genetic elements
Nitrogen, sulfur, and phosphate metabolism
Nucleotide metabolism
Plant growth and development
Protein metabolism
RNA metabolism and transcription
Secondary metabolism
Storage proteins
Stress response
Transport
Putative proteins
Unable to classify

Is there a way how to do this? Any ideas? My organism is plant.

I believe you know the answer by now but the search term you are looking for is "functional classification". Both David and Panther provide this service.
