Hi, many of us install Cygwin in our windows machine to have the Linux like feel. In default, many packages don't get installed when we install Cygwin. And, as a consequence, many simple commands don't work. For example, wget (https://superuser.com/questions/693284/wget-command-not-working-in-cygwin). Therefore, often many of us reinstall the Cygwin with required packages to make sure the most common commands required in bioinformatics work are working.

Can you make a list of packages we must have (i.e those do not come in default) to make sure we don't need to reinstall Cygwin time after time?

Ditch cygwin and use the Windows Subsystem for Linux if you have a Windows machine you need to do bioinformatics work on. It works great.

Alternatively, you can install one remote Linux desktop/server with a GUI.

Then use mobaxterm to log into that server from a Windows machine and use the X-server integrated into mobaxterm for graphics.
