We invite applicants for a three-year post-doctoral Research Associate post to undertake computational data analysis and potential related wet-lab work in the group of Dr Helle Jørgensen (www.med.cam.ac.uk/jorgensen/) at the University of Cambridge. This project is a collaboration with Dr Mikhail Spivakov (lms.mrc.ac.uk/research-group/functional-gene-control/).
We investigate the regulation of cell plasticity and heterogeneity in vascular biology and disease. The group has a particular focus on proliferative responses, which has direct implication for the development of cardiovascular disease. We previously demonstrated a selective response of very few cells using clonal lineage tracing in animal models (see Chappell et al, PMID: 27682618) and used single cell RNA-sequencing to identify variable expression of disease-related genes that we propose underlie the observed functional heterogeneity (Dobnikar/Taylor et al, PMID: 30385745).
We are now seeking an individual to join our team to study the transcriptional networks regulating the selective activation of some vascular smooth muscle cells. The project will involve analysis and generation of functional genomic datasets, including single-cell RNA-seq and ATAC-seq, to identify candidate mechanisms regulating activation of proliferation for testing. The ideal candidate will have experience in both data analysis and experimental data generation.
