An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced researcher to work on genomics in the epilepsies as part of a ground-breaking translational genomics programme under the supervision of Professor Sanjay Sisodiya. The post is based at the well-known Chalfont Centre for Epilepsy with translational research facilities and on-site laboratories.
The main purpose of the post is to advance understanding of the epilepsies through detailed clinical, investigational and genomic evaluation in a large cohort of people with well-characterised epilepsies. The post holder will oversee a team of Research Fellows/Bioinformaticians responsible for the statistical analysis and the scientific interpretation of data. S/he will provide bioinformatics advice and support to other group members and collaborators from different disciplines (and, in return, will receive advice from multidisciplinary teams). S/he will be involved in research on the genomic and clinical data generated within the group, aiming for clinical application, and through collaborative external projects, such as with Genomics England Ltd (100,000 Genomes project) and other national and international initiatives. An important strand of the group’s research is to develop formal quantitative multimodal analyses, for example, as used in recent work (https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/470518v1). One of the key elements of this post will be to further develop the ongoing genomics programme by forming additional collaborations with academic and industry partners and securing grants to support research.
Applicants must hold a PhD in Genetics, Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline and have extensive experience in generating genotyping and sequence data, analysing large genome-wide datasets, and supervising bioinformaticians/junior analysts. A track record of research publications in reputable journals within the areas of next generation sequencing data, conference presentations, research collaborations and grants is essential, and general knowledge of neurology/epilepsy is desirable.
The post is available from September 2019 and is funded by a grant from the Epilepsy Society for three years in the first instance. Starting salary on UCL Grade 9 in the range £56,266 - £61,181 per annum including London Allowance, superannuable.
