There is no good answer for this particular question. Both R and python have their place/uses in bioinformatics. You will benefit from learning both. Python is a general purpose programming language that can be used for wider applications. R is geared towards statistical analysis/plotting.
You will find that experts for both will say that one can use either to do most anything. While that can be true, it does not mean it will be the most efficient/appropriate way.
