Hi,

I have a variants within C1orf55 gene. could u please explain for me what are those kind of genes and how can I interpret them ?

For your mentioned gene C1orf55, it is "chromosome 1 open reading frame 55". Source - Genecards.

You can find some description about gene names here. It say's -

4. ORF Names

The ‘ORF names’ section is used to alphabetically list the names that are temporarily attributed to an open reading frame (ORF) by a sequencing project. This name can be based on a cosmid numbering system, on the clone name attributed by large-scale cDNA projects or on any other type of naming system.

ORF stands for open reading frame. It merely denotes a genomic segment that has a start and stop codon. The stretch of DNA from the start to the stop codon is the ORF. ORFs are typically used as predictions for genes. Because they have transcription start and stop sites, they are likely to be transcribed. However, this does not mean that they are translated. As such, based on ORFs one can decipher putative protein coding regions, but these will require experimental validation.

Although the Swiss-Prot curator has made a call on this as a real protein (sp|Q6IQ49|CA055_HUMAN UPF0667 protein C1orf55) there is something very strange about this and the 100's of orthologues you can see in http://www.ensembl.org/Multi/GeneTree/Image?gt=ENSGT00530000063402. It looks like its not "evolving"
