In my manuscript for publishing, there is a sentence that "ni is the size of NO. 1, 2, 3, …, i unit",

and the reviewer commented that the word "NO." in "No. 1,2,3...." should be expanded to avoid conclusion and increase clarity while reading."

I think I just replace "NO." into "number", but my investigator do not think so. Therefore, how should I correct the expression here.
