This is my first time using PICRUSt, and I have a few ideas I’d like to try, but I am not sure they are appropriate to perform.

  1. Is it acceptable to use these results to assess if an ASV/OTU has multiple ECs? For instance, ASV1/OTU1 has both EC.1.7.2.1 and EC 1.7.2.2. Could I then take that further and say X% of my community has both EC.1.7.2.1 and EC 1.7.2.2? It seems this might be a bit misleading, due to the inferences this pathway makes, but I am not sure!

  2. Would it be appropriate to calculate diversity indices on this output? For example, I have output data that shows me all of the OTUs that have EC.1.7.2.1, would it be appropriate to calculate any sort of diversity index (Shannon, chao, etc.) on these data?

Thank you!
