Hello anyone,

in the previous version of Blast DB it was possible to limit the search for blastp against the HMP (Human Microbiome Project) using the Entrez_query field.

However, now in the new version that field has disappeared. How then is it now possible to limit the search to the HMP database?

Thanks a lot in advance

Are you referring to command line or web blast at NCBI?

in the Blast web has disappeared Entrez_query for blastp. And blastp command, adding the parameter -entrez_query 43021[BioProject] I get the error:

Error: [blastp] Error: internal_error: Message ID#54 Error: Failed to process the Entrez query: Only organism entrez queries are supported

  • In HMP they indicate: Q: Can I perform a BLAST search against the HMP data sets? A: We do not provide a BLAST server against HMP data, however Entrez BLAST submissions can be limited to HMP data by including "43021[BioProject]" in the Entrez Query field..

    • In NCBI they indicate: Entrez query box is no longer available due to database switching to version 5

I don't mind launching the blast via command or web, I just need to know how to blast my protein sequence against HMP

If that is the new norm then you may be out of luck. You should email blast help desk and ask them about this change of policy and/or if there is an alternate way to restrict your search against HMP.

Since the original poster never came back to report if they heard from NCBI help desk you will have to ask them again. Please let us know what you hear.
