When I try to install (as Administrator) GeneMapper v.4.0 on Windows 7 I get the following error message:

  • You have to logon to the local machine to install GeneMapper software.

Any idea how this could be overcome? Thanks

Francesco

This is a proprietary software, so I have the strong conviction their own people should be helping you install their software. How much did you pay for this software? Their documentation alone costs 276.86$...

This isn't usually my domain (hehe), but I think I can help with this. It seems that you are probably at a company or institute that has implemented a "group policy" which specifies that when you logon using "username", "domain" is silently appended to it in the fashion: "domain\username". To logon locally to your Windows 7 machine, you need to fine the computer name and supply that in place of "domain". Here is a short explanation of how to find your computer name. Based on the documentation for your program, it sounds like this will fix the issue.

This is probably late, but NCBI produces OSIRIS, a free, open source STR analysis tool. There are both Windows and Macintosh versions available for download. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/osiris/
