DSM Biotechnology Center (DBC) is the primary location for biotechnological Research and Development and is responsible for the realization of biotechnological innovations and the developments of new bio-products and sustainable bio-production processes. DBC has strong competences in high-throughput screening, microbial strain development, industrial bioprocessing, food applications and analytics. DBC is well connected to the DSM R&D hubs in the US and China and external research institutes and universities.

The Automation & Screening group is part of DBC and works at the interface of molecular biology and robotics. By using high-throughput methods, strain engineering and screening techniques, we improve microbial strain performance to produce diverse products like sweeteners, biofuels and enzymes.

Key-responsibilities As a developer in the Automation & Screening team you will build and maintain software infrastructure that facilitates and accelerates experimental workflows. These tools provide interfaces to our robotics platform, capture, process and visualize data and are ultimately used to screen and engineer microorganisms that produce a wide range of biomolecules.

You Bring

  • We are looking for a full-stack developer who enjoys all aspects of building and maintaining sustainable microservices. If most of the following points apply to you, then this position is for you!
  • You have deep knowledge about Python and/or Java.
  • You have several years of experience in building and applying APIs and GUIs.
  • You enjoy building web interfaces (using e.g. Angular, Vue, React)
  • You have good working knowledge of Docker and cloud computing.
  • You have good working knowledge of SQL (knowledge on graph databases is a plus).
  • Writing tests and using version control is a natural element of your software development process.
  • Biology/Bioinformatics experience is strongly preferred but not essential
  • Experience with Tecan and Hamilton liquid handlers and other lab automation is strongly preferred.
