I'm trying to target a protein to the yeast plasma membrane. I know that there are specific sequences for this but I can't find such annotations in known plasma membrane genes in Genbank. Is there a tool that will allow me to search for GPI anchor sequences within particular a gene?

  1. There are multiple tools to predict GPI anchors, as a quick Google search for gpi anchor prediction will reveal. PredGPI is used quite widely.

  2. Genbank gene annotation is perhaps not the best source for this information. Try Uniprot instead; it has a specific keyword for GPI anchor and you can follow the link from that page to view proteins, taxonomy and so on.
