Bioinformatics Open Days 2nd Edition Will Occur in 14 and 15 of March, 2013 at the University of Minho, Campus Gualtar, Braga, Portugal.

This event aims to promote the areas of bioinformatics and computational biology, bringing national and international specialists in the field.

Topics of interest include processing and analysis of Next Generation Sequencing data, omics data analysis, biological data visualization, evolutionary computation, data mining/machine learning algorithms and tools for biological data analysis between other related fields.

Also will be held a forum of discussion among students in the area and a session devoted to companies interested in Bioinformatics.

We would like to invite you to participate in this event, by submitting a contribution (oral or poster presentation) or simply by attending the sessions.

Hope to see you there!

Call for contributions

Bioinformatics has assumed, over the past few years, an outstanding growth and its role is gaining even more importance in fields like Molecular Biology and Molecular Medicine. These fields, more than ever, are giving rise to an exponential production of data in a wide range of new formats, aiming to represent biological sequences, molecular structures, high-throughput experimental data and so on.

The Bioinformatics and Computational Biology fields integrate biological research efforts with data analysis, mathematical modeling, in silico simulation and optimization, aiming to gather large-scale databases and develop new computational technologies, to promote biological discovery and to help in tasks related with modeling and optimization, e.g. in the field of Systems Biology.

Topics of interest include, but not restricted to:

  • Analysis and processing of Next Generation Sequencing data
  • Sequence analysis methods and tools, including sequence alignment, homology searching, motif discovery, gene finding, etc.
  • Model/network optimization/ inference algorithms and tools
  • Proteomics, Transcriptomics, Metabolomics or other omics data analysis
  • Metabolic/ regulatory/ signaling models or networks reconstruction and analysis
  • Simulation methods for different types of biological models
  • Biological data visualization
  • Functional Genomics
  • Evolutionary Computation and other metaheuristics applied to biological optimization problems
  • Cellular Interactions
  • Data mining/ machine learning algorithms and tools for biological data analysis
  • Phylogenetic analysis
  • In silico drug discovery

Submissions should be done in our page in the form of abstracts with a maximum of 5000 characters including names and affiliations of all authors and email address of one selected corresponding author. Submitted contributions, will be evaluated and selected for oral or poster presentation.

Submissions will be accepted until JANUARY 31st 2013
