Dear BioStars,

I'm searching for entire genome sequences (in FASTA or 2bit format) for the following organisms:

  • Drosophila melanogaster
  • Saccharomyces cerevisiae
  • Chicken (Gallus gallus)

Thanks in advance!

And your question is? Please formulate your query as a question. Currently, this reads as some kind of research update and while I am happy that your are looking at three different genomes, this is a forum for questions. So, ask!

Please try to use existing tags first before creating new ones. And if you create new ones use tags that might be useful in more than 1 case.

I reverted an edit: I think the questioner needs to clarify, rather than have us guess what they mean. Also, previous comments lose context if the question is altered too much.

So Vivo: is your question "How can I download genomes in fasta or 2bit format for these species"? That's what people here think it might be.

Or, is your question: My colleagues have genomes in FASTA and 2bit format, how do I organize a search given that my objective is __?

I am tempted to close this as "not a real question", but we'll give you a chance to ask one.

Does the author have enough karma to update his question? I know when new people without 50 karma points cannot comment, which is why so many new people give comments as new answers...

Yes, you need 50 to comment, but anyone can edit their own question - which is what's required here.

There was already one vote for closing, and at this point, I think it's clear that Vivo is not coming back to answer.

You can download these genomes from Ensembl on this page for example: http://www.ensembl.org/info/data/ftp/index.html You can choose which data you prefer (DNA, cDNA, peptides,...) and clickig on the link will lead you to a FTP folder for the considered species.

the *.toplevel.fa files generally contain all chromosomes. For further information, each FTP folder has a README file.

Don't encourage them by answering until they ask a proper question :-)

Well that's true there is no question but since it only took me few seconds to reply I have been nice. But I'll try to avoid it from now.
